How to Print Avery Labels Without the Template Math
Avery has a template for every sheet, which is the problem: pick the wrong number and your text drifts off the label. If you own a thermal or label printer, you can skip the sheet grid and print each label at its real size.
Printing steps
- Sort out what you're printing on. Avery sheet labels (like 5160) go through a laser or inkjet on letter paper. A roll or thermal printer prints one label at a time at its own dimensions. The method follows the printer you have, not the other way around.
- Printing sheets? Enter the exact Avery template number so the grid lines up, then print at 100% scale with 'fit to page' switched off. Leave scaling on and every row shifts.
- Have a label printer (Zebra, DYMO, Rollo, Brother, MUNBYN)? There's no grid to match. The label is one fixed size, edge to edge, and no template number applies.
- Install the free Print Bridge from /download/ (Windows, macOS, or Linux). It finds the label printers your computer already sees over USB or the network, with no driver hunt.
- Open /app/, choose your label size, and print. PaperReady sends it at true size: 4x6 stays 4x6, with no browser dialog and no shrinking to a letter page, to any brand the OS can see.
Choose matching paper dimensions and print at 100% / Actual size. Individual label PDFs and five-label batch proofs work without an account. Complete batches require Pro. Direct printing depends on your printer driver and current platform support. PaperReady does not purchase postage.
Frequently asked
Do I need Avery sheets to print address labels?
No. Avery sheets are laser or inkjet paper laid out on a template grid. With a label printer you print one address label at a time on a roll: no sheet, no template number, and no half-used sheets sitting in a drawer.
Why do my Avery labels print off-center or shifted down the page?
It's almost always scaling. The browser or PDF viewer is set to 'fit to page' or 'shrink to fit,' which resizes the whole grid and pushes every row out of alignment. Set scale to 100%. On a label printer there's no grid and no fitting. PaperReady prints at the label's real size, so nothing shifts.
Can PaperReady print a 5160-style address label?
Yes. Open the Avery 5160 layout, edit the design, then use Print / PDF. Choose the number of labels and starting slot, download the sheet PDF, and print at Actual size on US Letter paper.
